Editor’s note: “This update was sent regarding USP Thomson’s COVID-19 current mitigation efforts and to correct the record, regarding inaccuracies reported by other media outlets.”
It is USP Thomson’s utmost concern to ensure that the local community, staff, and inmates are protected.
USP Thomson is currently experiencing an increase in staff and inmate COVID-19 positive cases. Due to the increase in numbers for inmates, USP Thomson began conducting mass inmate testing for COVID-19, to mitigate against further transmission of the virus. Although USP Thomson is pleased to report that the entire Camp facility was recently tested with negative results, additional testing of all inmates is ongoing….Information will be updated on our www.bop.gov webpage daily.
Additionally, on Thursday, August 27, 2020, USP Thomson will collaborate with local health care officials to offer an additional testing venue for staff at the facility. They will have a mobile testing van on-site at USP Thomson. All staff will have the opportunity to be test that day at no cost.
In addition, staff have been given direction on where they can be tested within the local community, if they desire. The expenses for these tests are being covered by the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. The majority of staff are receiving their results within 24-to-48 hours.
USP Thomson has been able to utilize Temporary Duty (TDY) staff, to ensure those staff were working only in the quarantine and isolation units. They do not interact with any inmates at USP Thomson. TDY staff have been requested by the North Central Regional Office for USP Thomson. We anticipate additional deployments in the very near future.
All staff and inmates are provided with, and expected to adhere to, CDC guidelines in regards to the use of Personal Protective equipment. USP Thomson currently has an adequate supply of PPE. All staff have access to hand sanitizer, disinfectant, and soap. Inmates are provided soap, disinfectant, and disinfectant wipes for cleaning and personal hygiene. Currently, USP Thomson has an adequate supply of PPE and sanitation supplies for current and projected needs.
