Ted A. Jankowski, 89 of Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Ted was born on April 18, 1926, in New Castle, IN, the son of Frank and Helen (Romsicki) Jankowski. He was united in marriage to Irene Gilbertson on October 30, 1949, in Rock Falls, IL. She preceded him in death on October 8, 2003. In 1943 he worked in Seattle, WA, at the MP Munter, Co. Overseas Construction as a bridge builder. Ted and 30 others were flown to Fairbanks, AK, to build the bridge of Chena River. After completion of the bridge, he worked for Burch, Johnson, and Litel, an overseas company to build Elmendorf Airfield in Fairbanks, AK. He then moved to Sterling-Rock Falls where he had lived and worked for 40 years, retiring in 1988. After retirement they moved to Inglis, FL, for ten years, returning due to his wife’s health. Ted was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Morrison. Throughout his life he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Ted is survived by one daughter, Lori (Tim) Mathews of Morrison; one son, Steve (Peggy) Jankowski of Decatur, IL; nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Jankowski of Oscola, IN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael Ray Jankowski; seven brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue, in Rock Falls, IL.
The funeral will follow on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 10:00 a.m., in St. Peter Lutheran Church in Morrison, IL, with the Reverend Mark Winkelman officiating.
Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, IL.
