“Cruising Down the River” on a Sunday afternoon…was the winning entry in a 1945 songwriting contest in the United Kingdom. Lyrics and music were the collaboration of two middle-aged women, Eily Beadell and Nell Tollerton. Their tune captured the magic and mood of such a day and became the biggest musical hit of 1946 in the UK. Its popularity spanned decades.
Experienced that feeling as a passenger aboard this Victorian styled riverboat, the “Twilight.”
Join the Savanna Historical Society as we host an afternoon cruise on the Mississippi River, Saturday, September 16, 2017. The second annual boat ride will leave from LeClaire, IA, at 1:00 p.m., with boarding at 12:45.
Come, relax, and view the majestic shoreline and its inhabitants. The river excursion takes 1.5 hours. This cruise is a major fundraiser for the Society. Last year, the boat was filled to capacity! Passengers enjoyed delicious desserts provided by the Savanna Historical Society.
The “Twilight” is a beautiful replica of a Victorian steamboat with three decks, a salon, and inside and outside seating. Enjoy the sun or shade. The “Twilight” is air-conditioned or heated, as needed.
The Society has reserved the entire boat for the afternoon. So, come aboard with your friends and family, and enjoy the afternoon as you help support Savanna Historical Society.
Tickets are $50 each, available from any SHS member or by calling Ann at 815-275-1958.
