Registration is open for Odell Public Library’s 2021 Summer Reading Program, “Reading Colors Your World.” This free program–generously sponsored by United Way of Whiteside County–is open to any child pre-school age through 8th grade. Register your readers online by visiting Odell’s website or Facebook page.
The library is open Monday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. (curbside only); Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The goal is to keep kids reading over the summer months and provide opportunities to create and explore along the way. Programming includes loads of art-centric activities that will transform your local library into an art gallery. From stained glass to sculptures, we will help kids tap into their creative side this summer.
While pandemic guidance is shifting, the library is proceeding with caution. Although we will miss the in-person meetups, we hope that offering a more flexible schedule will allow more families to enjoy this wonderful program.
Participants will be offered weekly make-and-take ARTivities; online read-alongs; other fun challenges that can be completed at home. Each child will receive reading log bookmarks to keep track of the days they read during club, as well as a BINGO board with fun family activities to try.
Children do not need a library card to participate in Summer Reading Club, but it does make library visits much more fun. Readers residing within the City limits are entitled to a library card at no cost. Rural readers may purchase a card at a cost of $50/year.
New this year, Morrison students are eligible to receive a free student card. Some limitations apply. Ask a staff member for more details, or email Director Meridith Layne at odell.library@gmail.com.
We look forward to reading and creating with your families this summer.
