Successful United Way Lunch Program

The “Let’s Feed Our Children” FREE summer lunch program held their volunteer lunch on Friday, August 16, 2013, at First Christian Church in Sterling, IL, celebrating 12 years of the successful program.

Over 125 volunteers were in attendance.  Walmart Distribution Center #7024 was thanked for their contribution of fruit for the 12 weeks of the summer program.   Everyone was thanked for the donations of peanut butter, jelly, and sandwich bags for the church community in Sterling, Rock Falls, Tampico, and Morrison, IL.  The bread this year was funded by Sacred Heart Church in Sterling and Rock Falls United Methodist Church.

Everyone who made a cash donation was recognized, as well as more than 30 local churches and organizations.  They provided volunteers to prepare and serve FREE lunches, three days a week.

Rock Falls United Methodist Church, Coloma Homes, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Broadway Methodist Church, Macedonia Church, CRAVE Community Building, and the Tampico Community Building were thanked for providing space to prepare and serve the lunches.

United Way of Whiteside County announced that the final figures for the 2013 program showed 32,532 lunches were prepared and served.  This is an increase of 4366 from 2012.   In Morrison 1508 lunches were served.
