An eight-run explosion in the first inning carried the Morrison Mustangs to a 12-2 win in five innings, over Bureau Valley on Monday, May 9, 2016.
Morrison scored in the first on an RBI single by Ethan Fischbach, an RBI double by Joey Brackemyer, a two-run error, a passed ball, and an RBI single by Ben Tegeler.
Cody Southern was solid at the plate for the Morrison Mustangs. Southern went 2-2, drove in one, and scored two runs. He singled in the first and second innings.
Fischbach recorded the win for Morrison, while allowing two runs over five innings. He struck out eight, walked one, and surrendered two hits.
The Storm’s Gustafon was charged with the loss. He allowed eight runs in two-thirds of an inning, walked one, and struck out one.
The Mustangs tacked on another four runs in the second. The inning looked promising, as Ryan VanZuiden doubled, plating Brackemyer to kick things off. That was followed by Southern‘s single, scoring Dylan Keller. The win expanded the Morrison Conference record to 7 and 5.
