Stewards of Lyndon United Methodist Church Legacy

The Lyndon Area Historical Society extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Lyndon United Methodist Church and the Leon Methodist congregations for choosing us to preserve many cherished items of the Lyndon Methodist Church.  A decision to resolve with the Leon Methodist congregation in Prophetstown, IL, necessitated the closure of the Lyndon site in July 2013. The Lyndon congregation was organized in 1841 and held services in Lyndon, IL, until 2013.  Many of us fondly remember the chicken and biscuit dinners, served so deliciously in the church’s fellowship hall.

Your priceless gift has once again filled the sanctuary of the Lyndon Area Historical Society, which had been the home of the Lyndon Congregational Church from 1836 to 1986, with the very pews of worship and solace used by so many generations of the Lyndon Methodist congregation.  Your generous spirit has advanced our mission to provide the surrounding area with a venue for small weddings, family celebrations, concerts, and other programs.

The many other items bequeathed will further allow us to showcase the museum as a significant repository of Lyndon’s most venerable history.  As stewards of your legacy, know that your countless contributions to Lyndon will remain in Lyndon–recognized, respected, and preserved.

We would be honored to have you join us as members of the Lyndon Area Historical Society.
