On 1/15/15 at about 1:26 a.m., Whiteside County Sheriff Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Moline Road about two-tenths of a mile west of Troy Road, rural Sterling, IL. Investigation revealed a vehicle was traveling westbound on Moline Road and the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle crossed the eastbound lane of travel, collided with a guardrail on the north side of the road, entered the north ditch, and collided with a tree.
The driver, Brent Zaagman, 31 of Sterling, was pronounced dead on scene by Whiteside County Coroner Joe McDonald.
The crash remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Illinois State Police, Sterling Fire Department, and CGH Medical Center Ambulance.
