The current production at Clinton Area Showboat Theatre (CAST) includes a local favorite performer–Jalayne Riewerts, Morrison, IL,–as one of the “Steel Magnolias.” This bittersweet 1989 comedy-drama runs through Sunday, August 2, 2015. The theatre lies beside the Mississippi River, 303 Riverview Drive, Clinton, IA. For tickets call 563-242-6760. The play begins at 7:30 p.m.
The main female characters can be both as delicate as the magnolia flower and as tough as steel. Among the six dynamic parts, in which role do you imagine Riewerts? If you thought, “Any of them!” you are astute. M’Lynn is mother to bride-to-be Shelby Eatenton. Truvy Jones operates a beauty shop in northwest Louisiana where preparations take place. Annelle Dupuy-Desoto is a newly-certified cosmetologist. M’Lynn’s unique friends include Louisa “Ouiser” Boudreaux and Clairee Belcher.
Riewerts is a never-to-be-missed performer. She is shown between Bailey Reeves and Miranda Barnett.
Barnett, left, and Reeves are shown in beauty shop, preparing for Shelby’s wedding day.
