Editor’s note:  Morrison Parks & Recreation posted this announcement.  Drive to a venue and shine your lights.

2018SpringComplexJimSteppMorrison, IL, is joining with other area schools tonight, Friday, April 17, 2020, at 8:20 p.m., by turning on all sports field lights for 20 minutes.  [This is to] recognize the hard work of all area athletes and [serve as] a reminder that there are better days ahead!

As we know, sports are an important part of the high school experience….Many of our area athletes were shorted on their spring seasons, despite all their hard work and preparation.

Congratulations, Class of 2020.  We are cheering for you in many ways this year and for the years to come.

If you choose to visit the lighted Morrison High School football stadium or Morrison Sports Complex, please remember to stay in your vehicle and continue to follow all social distancing restrictions.

Editor’s report from visiting the Morrison Sports Complex

Upon arrival at 8:17, only a Morrison Police Department vehicle was parked, three minutes before the “event” was to begin.  I spoke to Officer Kevin Soenksen, who verified the lights were timed to go on at 8:20.  At 8:18 a vehicle arrived and parked for about six minutes, leaving at 8:24.  From 8:30 to 8:33, five vehicles drove through the lot.  Two minutes later, two new drivers stopped briefly.  Someone stopped at 8:37 for a minute; at 8:38 two drove into the parking area and quickly left, as the lights darkened at 8:38.  Officer Soenksen followed them, and I followed him.

Not counting the on-duty Policeman, five vehicles drove through without stopping, and seven of us stayed for a bit.
