Nine Southside School students in grades three-through-five received a well-deserved reward for their superior reading achievement, during the 2017-2018 school year. On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, they were summoned to the office at 11:00 a.m. for a lunch trip to DQ Grill & Chill, 200 N. Sawyer Road, Morrison, IL.
Reading Specialist Lori Kennedy described treating these boys and girls to lunch over the last 13 years as “a perfect fit.” It is also a perfect reward for her 13-year career as a reading teacher. Kennedy’s final day is Thursday, May 24.
“Past incentives were rides to lunch in a limousine and Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. car,” she stated. “A few students–who earned 1000 career reading points–have their names recorded on a plaque.” It is displayed at Southside School, 100 Academic Drive, Morrison.
Third graders earned at least 150 points this year; fourth graders earned at least 200; fifth graders earned at least 250.
