Congressman Eric Sorensen announced his appointment to the House Armed Services Committee for the 119th Congress, along with assignments to two, critical subcommittees: the Subcommittee on Readiness and the Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces. These roles enhance Sorensen’s ability to advocate for the Rock Island Arsenal and Peoria Air National Guard Base–two cornerstones of Illinois’ 17th District.
“Illinois’ 17th District is home to the Rock Island Arsenal and the 182nd
Airlift Wing at the Peoria Air National Guard Base–both of which are vital to our National defense and the backbone of our local economy,” said Sorensen. “These subcommittee assignments allow me to ensure these installations get the resources, support, and investments they need, to continue their critical missions. I am proud to fight for our service members, civilian workers, and military families here in Illinois.”
“As a trusted TV Meteorologist for nearly 20 years and Member of Congress since 2023, Congressman Sorensen brings a truly unique and valuable set of skills to the House Armed Services Committee. His representation of the historic Rock Island Arsenal on the Mississippi River and the 182nd Airlift Wing at the Peoria Air National Guard base will be equally important, in informing the Committee’s work on behalf of service members, military families, and civilian workers,” said Congressman Adam Smith, Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee. “I look forward to working together in the 119th Congress.”
The Subcommittee on Readiness focuses on key areas of military preparedness, like training, logistics, and infrastructure. It also oversees military construction
and the operations of facilities, like the Rock Island Arsenal. Serving on this subcommittee gives Sorensen the chance to expand the Arsenal’s role in supporting the U .S. military with cutting-edge manufacturing and innovation.
The Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces handles matters related to military aircraft. Sorensen’s position on this subcommittee allows him to advocate for the Peoria Air National Guard Base, home to the 182nd Airlift Wing, which plays an essential role in our National defense.
The House Armed Services Committee oversees U. S. defense policy, military operations, and the Department of Defense budget. Each year, the committee crafts the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), setting the annual budget and expenditures for the Department of Defense.
With these assignments, Sorensen is poised to ensure Illinois’ 17th District remains a leader in National defense, while securing investments that benefit local communities
and strengthen America’s military readiness.
