Superintendent Scott Vance reports, “Around noon today[, Friday, August 29, 2014,] a fire alarm sounded at Morrison High School[, 643 Genesee Avenue, Morrison, IL]. A small fire was discovered, contained, and extinguished immediately. As a precaution the school was evacuated. Students have returned and classes will continue as normal for the remainder of the day.”
Later he explained a malfunction in a fuse to a Univent (used to heat the classroom) shorted. There was a flair up of flames. The teacher pulled the alarm and evacuated the students. The Univent was disconnected and the fuse removed.
Superintendent Vance commended the teacher and other staff who responded appropriately. There will be an investigation, he added, to determine how to prevent future shorts.
