Eight Seahorses made the trip to Champaign, IL, to compete in the 2015 Illinois Open Swim Meet. It was held at the University of Illinois Activities and Recreation Center Pool on Friday, June 19, through Sunday, June 21, 2015. The pool was an eight-lane, 50-meter pool, which is Olympic sized.
The team had an outstanding meet with 66 lifetime Best Swims out of 68 races. They also came home with 21 Top-6 finishes. Congratulations to the Seahorses on a fantastic meet.
Skylar Drolema broke six MSSC long course records in his last meet as a ten year old! He swam a 1:27.50 in the 100 Fly, which broke Nathan Osborn’s record set in 2003. He swam a 42.27 to better Corey Modglin’s record set in 2002. He swam a 1:33.31 in the 100 Breast and a 2:59.44 in the 200 IM, which broke both records set in 1991 by Nick Alvarado. He swam a 38.00 in the 50 Fly, which broke his own record by three seconds. He swam a 1:28.78, which broke his own record by eleven seconds!
The following swimmers swam a total of seven new Regional qualifying times: Bayleigh Brewer – 200 Free, 100 Free, 50 Breast; Schyon Drolema – 50 Free; Skylar Drolema – 50 Fly, 50 Free; Kate Henson – 50 Back.
The next meet for the Seahorses was the 2015 Illinois Swimming Regional Championship Meet on Friday, July 17, through Sunday, July 19. It was held at Rock Island High School, Rock Island, IL.
