WC Sheriff's Office Presents Fourth Citizens Police Academy |

Whiteside County Sheriff Kelly C. Wilhelmi and members of the Sheriff's Department as well as members of other area law enforcement agencies will present a 10-week training program beginning January 14, 2009. The citizens who attend the academy will graduate on March 18, 2009. This will be the fourth Citizen Police Academy to be offered by the Whiteside County Sheriffs Office and will give the citizens of the county an opportunity to learn more about law enforcement issues and operations, 911 service, Neighborhood Watch, personal and home safety, traffic safety, fraud/scams/telemarketers, the State's Attorneys Office, Probation Office, Coroner's Office, gang concerns, senior citizen concerns, DARE, K-9 use in police work, as well as many other topics of interest. The goals of the Citizen Police Academy in Whiteside County include - but not limited to: A. Provide information to the public about law enforcement.
Citizens will hear from a variety of instructors who are experienced professionals. The academy will be very beneficial to the average citizen because it will give a chance to see behind the scenes to see what it takes to be a law enforcement officer. Those attending all be able to tour the County Jail, the Sheriff's Department, and the Courthouse. It's a great opportunity to find out more about the Sheriff's Department operation, see what they do, and how they do it. The classes will show how important the public is in solving crimes and helping their neighbors remain safe. The academy is designed to bring the public and police together to discuss community problems and concerns. The Citizens Police Academy will meet each Wednesday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Whiteside County Sheriff's Department, 400 North Cherry Street, Morrison, IL. Persons interested in attending this Whiteside County Sheriff's Department Citizens Police Academy must be 21 years of age, and live in Whiteside County. To register for the class, call Nancy at the Sheriff's Office BEFORE JANUARY 1, 2009, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. weekdays at 815-772-5213. ALL APPLICANTS WILL BE SUBJECT TO A BACKGROUND CHECK. THOSE ACCEPTED FOR THE ACADEMY WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL. The class size is limited to 35 persons. Refreshments will be provided each evening.
