CCC Begins Construction on the New Science Addition

CCC Maquoketa Center

Clinton Community College is pleased to announce that work has begun on a new Science Addition and renovation of the college’s existing science facilities.

The project is one result of a bond referendum approved by voters of the Eastern Iowa Community College District in September, 2007. The college faculty, staff and administration have been working closely with Stanley Consultants for architectural and engineering plans as this project develops. Faculty members have been heavily involved in the plan for the implementation of new classrooms, labs and prep areas. Additionally, CCC is trying to build with LEED standards in mind with a goal to be as sustainable as possible while keeping within the budget.

Clinton Community College President Karen Vickers commented, “We are so excited to begin this addition. This space will house several science classrooms and labs as well as offices for our science faculty. Our faculty have planned this space with great care and it will serve as wonderful instructional space for our students. We will certainly look forward to inviting the community in to see the addition when it is completed.”

This was the first time in EICCD history that voters had been approached with a request of this type. EICCD is comprised of Clinton, Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges. It includes all of Clinton, Jackson, Muscatine and Scott Counties, and parts of Cedar and Louisa Counties. The $33 million 10-year bond issues are intended for specific projects and will not be renewed. Projects across the District will provide a better learning environment for students and better service to the communities.

The other project that will have a direct impact in our area is the new CCC Maquoketa Center. Construction began in the fall, and the building is scheduled to open in summer, 2009. The CCC Maquoketa Center, located adjacent to Maquoketa High School, will house the college’s credit classes and continuing education offerings, as well as training for the local businesses and industries. The building will have classroom space, two computer labs, a Career and Technical Education lab, a resource room, small conference room, and a community meeting room.

Other EICCD projects include:
- New science and technology additions at Muscatine and Scott Community Colleges.
- Upgrade technology labs district-wide, including software, fiber optics and wireless capabilities.
- Update several buildings throughout the district.
- Renovate the Blong Technology Center, just off Interstate 80, for additional advanced manufacturing programs.
- Open new satellite centers in West Liberty and Wilton, and renovate the current facility in Columbus Junction.
- Contribute funding toward a second entrance/exit road at Scott Community College.
- Renovate career technology building at Scott Community College.
- Renovate or move Career Assistance Center in downtown Davenport.

During construction of the CCC science addition, handicapped parking will be available in the CCC Learning Center parking lot located directly across from the cafeteria/auditorium entrance on Lincoln Blvd., Clinton.
