March 21, 1924 - November 22, 2008 CLARENCE COLONEL MEURS, 84, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the nursing home. Clarence was born March 21, 1924 in Long Island, KS to Elmer and Nellie (Verhoef) Meurs. He was educated in the rural Luctor, KS grade schools. Clarence served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He married Alfretta R. Engelkens on February 17, 1949 in Morrison. He was engaged in farming in the rural Morrison area for his entire life. He was a member of the Morrison Christian Reformed Church where he served several terms as a deacon and an elder. He was a member of the founding board of the Resthave Nursing Home. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Craig) Hoogheem of Morrison, IL and Gayle Meurs of Fairbanks, AK; two sons, Eugene Meurs and Alan (Shelley) Meurs both of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren, Michele (Jeff) Workman, Chris (Amber) Hoogheem, Jarrod Meurs, Waylon (Sarah) Meurs, Kayla, Kendra, and Kyle Meurs; five great grandchildren, Jaeden and Chase Workman, Anandi Hoogheem, Molly and Gaige Meurs; three brothers, Henry Meurs of Fulton, IL; Wayne (Lois) Meurs of Canon City, CO; and Raymond (Alva Jean) Meurs of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Geneva Stuart; and two brothers, John and Edward Meurs.
