Fritzi was born July 25, 1917 in Clinton, IA to F.H. and Myrtle (Lowry) Douthitt. She graduated from Lake View High School in Chicago, IL and later graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana with a major in Fine Arts. While attending the University of Illinois, she began a modeling career, that led her to be known as the top model in Chicago for several years. At the U of I, she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. She also became the Illinois Homecoming Queen and met the love of her life, Deane Frary of Prophetstown. She married C. Deane Frary on November 25, 1939 in Evanston, IL. He died August 30, 1989. After marriage, Deane and Fritzi moved to Chicago. In later years, she was a patron of the Clinton Area Community Showboat Theatre. She loved young people and cultivated many friendships with the actors there. She and her husband were avid Fighting Illini fans and supporters. In 1998, during a halftime ceremony at Memorial Stadium, Fritzi received her honorary “Varsity I”. She took great pride in “her boys”. She also loved animals, dogs in particular.
