Fatal Semi vs. Pedestrian Accident

Traffic had to be re-routed on Route 30

Whiteside County Deputies are investigating a fatal accident involving a semi-tractor trailer and a pedestrian that occurred on US Route 30 and Blue Goose Road around 1:20 p.m. Friday afternoon.

The name of the pedestrian has been released as Andrew Abell, 18 of Rock Falls. Complete obituary may be read at McDonald Funeral Home.

According to the report a semi driven by Gary D. Leigh, 56, of Rock Falls was traveling westbound on US Route 30 when he struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway. The pedestrian had just been involved in a minor traffic accident with another vehicle just prior to being struck.

Deputies believe at this time, the pedestrian may have been crossing the road in order to speak with the other driver when he was hit.

Deputies are continuing the investigation. They received assistance at the scene from Morrison Fire and Ambulance and the Illinois Department of Transportation.
