WCHD Evening Flu Shot Clinic November 24

Whiteside County Health Department is holding a special evening Flu Shot Clinic on Monday, Nov. 24.

Flu shots will be available from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 24 at Whiteside County Health Department, 1300 W. Second St., Rock Falls. Walk-ins are welcome.

“We understand many people cannot make it to our clinic when flu shots are available weekdays from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Nurses will be on hand November 24th from 4:30 to 7 p.m. for anyone who wants a flu shot and cannot get one during daytime hours,” said Sue Drey, RN, immunizations coordinator for Whiteside County Health Department.

Flu shots costs $25, payable by cash or check. Medicare Part B and Medicaid will be billed if a Medicare or Medicaid card is shown at the time of visit.

Pneumococcal vaccines also will be available for $35 for anyone ages 2 years old and above.

The 2008-09 influenza vaccine protects against the three main flu strains that research indicates will cause the most illness during the flu season. The flu vaccine can protect you from getting sick from these viruses, or it can make your illness more mild if you get a related, but different strain of flu virus.

Vaccination is the best method for preventing flu and its potentially severe complications in children, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

CDC recommends that all children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday get a flu vaccine.

Influenza season most often peaks in January or February or later.
