Club members finalized plans for their Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Breakfast to be held on Saturday morning, November 22nd in the Community Room at the Odell Library. Serving hours are from 6 to 11 a.m. Fresh biscuits, sausage gravy and sausage links will be the main menu. Orange juice, milk and good hot coffee will also be served. The club is asking for a monetary donation for the breakfast. Funds raised from the breakfast will be used to support the sight and hearing programs and requests for assistance in these two fields as well as the support given by the club to community projects. Be sure to mark the date on your calendar.
The club is also selling delicious boneless Christmas hams. The hams are cured and smoked with an average size of 15 to 17 pounds. The cost per pound is $2.50. Delivery of the hams will start about December 17th. Hams may be kept in the refrigerator up to 90 days without freezing them. A taste of the ham will be available at the breakfast and you can place your order on November 22nd. Orders can also be placed by contacting any Lions Club member or by calling Bob Smith at 815/772-2265, Bob Countryman at 815/589-3330, or Bob Schick at 815/772-4735. Funds raised from the ham sales will also be used to support Lions Club projects.
Senior Zone Chairman Ruth Lyle from Erie was a guest at the meeting held on November 4th. She installed Dr. Stacie Setchell into the Club. Sponsor was Dr. David Jennings. Dr. Setchell is affiliated with Dr. Jennings. Lion Lyle gave a short presentation on the work of the organization and how members can relate this information to other people. Bob Kelly gave the program on Tuesday explaining how he and his family arrived in Morrison. Bob served his country and after working in the Rockford area decided to move to Morrison. Bob was employed at the Quad-City Nuclear Plant and is now retired. The point made by him is the importance of community people to reach out to invite people to our community especially in situations when employment opportunities arise.
One request was received for vision assistance and was approved by the club. Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 18th at noon at Happy Joe’s. Members cordially invite anyone interested to attend meetings.
