CCC announces new Faculty

Clinton Community College is pleased to announce the addition of new faculty members for the 2008-09 academic year. Clinton Community College President Dr. Karen Vickers remarked about the new faculty, “We are so excited to have these faculty join us at CCC. Each brings wonderful experiences, a commitment to our students, and an excitement to be a part of CCC. We are finding that they are a great addition to our campus community and we are enjoying having them at CCC.”

Stefanie Dietrick is an instructor in the Clinton Community College Nursing Department. She earned her AAS in Nursing from Clinton Community College and her Bachelor of Science Degree at Kaplan University in Florida. Stefanie is pursuing her Master of Science Degree in Nursing Education.

After graduating from CCC she worked in the Clinton area for 2 years before becoming a travelling registered nurse. During that time she worked in Colorado and the Chicago area. In 2005, she returned home to Clinton and has been working at Trinity Health Center as an Administrative Supervisor and Emergency Room nurse. For the past two years she has worked with our nursing students as a Clinical Instructor supervising and training our nursing students.

Dean of the College Ron Serpliss commented, “Stefanie brings a dedication to nursing, our students and life-long learning. We are very pleased to have her teaching our first year nursing students.”

Marcia Lathrop has joined the Developmental Education department as an instructor. She earned Bachelor’s degrees in Education and English from Judson College in Oregon, and her Master’s Degree from City University, Seattle, Washington.

Marcia has taught for over 15 years in the k-12 system, mostly in high school. She has taught GED, Public Speaking, Poetry, Adult Literacy and Journalism. Most recently she has been an adjunct instructor for CCC.

“Marcia is committed to her students and loves teaching. It’s great to see her as a full time member of our faculty,” said Dean Ron Serpliss.

CCC welcomes Gina Bauswell to the Communication Department as a Speech instructor. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Eastern Illinois University.

After being a faculty member for 3 years at Eastern Arkansas College, Gina spent a year in Prague teaching English as a foreign language. She returned to the Chicago area and was employed by Turano Baking Company as an account Manager. Her love for teaching and the community colleges brought her to CCC as our new speech instructor.

“Gina brings contagious enthusiasm and energy to the classroom,” said Dean Serpliss. “We are delighted to have her on our faculty.”

Artist Robyn Smith is the new Art Instructor in the Humanities department. With a Bachelor’s degree in Drawing and a Master’s degree in Painting, she will bring much experience to CCC.

Robyn has spent the past 18 years living in the Seattle area. While there she has taught classes in drawing, painting and creativity at galleries, colleges and art centers. One trip led her to teach a workshop at Denali National Park in Alaska. As a native of Iowa she recently returned to home and is now able to be with us full time teaching in the Art Department.

“We are grateful to have someone with Robyn’s painting expertise and background as a member of our faculty,” said Dean Serpliss.

Chris Whipple will be teaching “Nursing the Childbearing Family” and “Nursing of Children” in the clinical area. She has taught part-time for ECCD in the clinical area for the past 18 years.

Chris is a graduate of Maryland/Walter Reed Army Institute of nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree. Chris Whipple comes to EICCD from Mercy Medical Center in Clinton where she has worked in Maternal Child Nursing for over 20 years. She is a Certified Childbirth Educator and Lactation Consultant, and has worked as a staff nurse and most recently was a Childbirth Educator and also a Lactation Consultant.

Nursing Director Ruth Sueverkruebbe commented, “We are thrilled to have Chris Whipple join the EICCD nursing Faculty. Chris has taught part-time for ECCD in the clinical area for the past 18 years. Chris will be teaching Nursing the Childbearing Family and Nursing of Children in the clinical area.”

Brian Johnson comes to Clinton Community College from private industry. He is a CCC instructor teaching on contract in the building trades department at Clinton High School. Brian is a general contractor who possesses 19 years of experience in the building and contracting business. He is the owner of Brian Johnson Construction and Remodeling, LLC and he has worked in all areas of construction and contracting. Brian is a native of Clinton.

According to Dean Ron Serpliss, “Brian has an excellent background in construction. He has the ability to teach students the skills they will need in the building and construction field based on the many years of experience he brings to the classroom.”
