Melanie T. Schroeder Attends Clerks of IL Institute

The 2008 Municipal Clerks of Illinois Institute was held October 12-17,2008 at the Springfield Hilton, Springfield, Illinois.

Melanie T. Schroeder, City Clerk in Morrison, was one of more than 55 participants and has completed Year 2 of the 3-year Institute program.

The Institute, approved by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, is one component of the municipal clerks' certification process. One hundred and twenty hours of course work are required, including work in public administration, social and interpersonal skills, and technical skills relevant to the clerks' duties. Participation allows clerks to upgrade their skills and increase their effectiveness.

The Institute was presented through the combined efforts of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs and the Office of Continuing Education at the University of Illinois. This year's program provided opportunities to learn more about fundamentals of supervision, ethics and ethical issues, the culture of government, public speaking, records management, decision making, communication skills, organizational theory and personalities in the workplace, and new legislation.
