Donald C. Barnet Sr.


September 13, 1921 - September 20, 2008

DONALD C. BARNET, SR., 87, of Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, September 20, 2008 at the Living Center.

Donald was born September 13, 1921 in Chicago, IL to Lewis and Edna Edith (Hill) Barnet. He was educated in the Chicago area grade schools and graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood, IL. He served in the U.s. Army during WWII. He married Eileen M. Whiteford on April 12, 1947 in Cicero, IL. She died October 5, 2002. He worked for Quaker Oats in Oak Park, IL and was later an Oak Park Police Officer. He owned and operated a bottled water delivery service in Lomard, IL. He later owned and operated many local gas stations in the Rock Falls, IL and Clinton, IA areas. Donald was a member of Morrison American Legion Post #328 in Morrison. He had served as a Cub Scout leader, a Little League coach, helped with the Boy Scouts, and was with the Indian Guides in Sterling, IL. He was also an avid fisherman at Rockwood State Park.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Claussen of Morrison, IL; Christine (Mrs. Ricky) McNeese of Rock Island, IL, and Mary (Mrs. Paul) Block of Plano, IL; three sons, Donald (Janice) Barnet, Jr. of Wheeling, IL; Steve (Sue) Barnet of Dixon, IL, and Greg (Barbara) Barnet of Platteville, WI; seventeen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen and a brother, Robert Barnet.

Funeral Information

GRAVESIDE SERVICE WHEN AND WHERE: 10:30 AM Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Grove Hill Cemetery – Morrison, IL

VISITATION: 6:00 – 8:00 pm Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home.

INTERMENT: Grove Hill Cemetery – Morrison, IL
