Driver Airlifted to Rockford
Whiteside County Deputies responded to single vehicle traffic crash on Black Road. The accident occurred approximately one mile west of Illinois Route 78 on October 10, 2008 at approximately 12:06 a.m. A vehicle, which was driven by 48-year-old John W. Piester, was traveling eastbound on Black Road. Piester’s vehicle went off the road for a short distance and came back onto the roadway. Piester then lost control of the vehicle and it went off the roadway again and rolled several times. Piester was ejected from the vehicle.
Piester was transported from the scene to Morrison Hospital by Morrison Ambulance and then airlifted to Rockford. The accident remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Morrison Ambulance and Morrison Fire Department.
One Vehicle Accident Results with Charges
Whiteside County Sheriff’s Officers responded to a one-vehicle accident on October 10, 2008 at approximately 6:55 a.m. the accident happened at the intersection of Henry Road and Nelson Road. After further investigation it was found that the vehicle was heading North on Henry Road. It was unable to stop at the stop sign, causing the vehicle to go into the ditch.
The driver of the vehicle, Todd A. Nelson, Morrison, was charged with Disobeying a Stop Sign, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident and Failure to Notify Police Authorities of an accident. Nelson was released on a Notice to Appear with a Morrison Court on November 3, 2008 at 9 a.m.
Accidental Shooting at Sportsman’s Club
Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputies are currently investigating an accidental shooting that occurred at the Morrison Sportsman’s club on Monday, October 13, 2008 at approximately 12 noon.
It appears at this time that William L. Dean, age 39, Sterling was reloading a muzzle loader rifle when the gun accidentally discharged. The packing rod from the gun was still in the barrel when the gun discharged, sending the packing rod into deans right arm. It is still unclear what made the gun discharge and the investigation is continuing.
Dean was transported to Morrison Hospital by private vehicle and later air lifted to a Rockford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse Arrest
Louisa Morell-Engklekes, 41, Morrison, was arrested on October 15, 2008 by Whiteside County Sheriff’s Officers for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse. She is being held in the Whiteside County Jail pending a court appearance. This arrest is merely a charge and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
