The city of Morrison has an interim police chief now. Tony Graff was sworn in by Mayor Roger Drey (right) last Monday at the city council meeting. Graff comes to us from Yorkville, IL. Along the same lines, Drey swore in new officer Curt Workman. City Administrator, Tim Long reported that there has not yet been a clean water sample from the well with the new pump. The city will be running a 6” line wide open at 11,000 gallons per minute to flush. This should provide a clean sample after flushing.
City Attorney, Lester Weinstine reported on the Tenboer building, which is currently a safety issue due to a collapsing wall. Weinstine said that the Tenboers are cooperating completely with the city’s requests, and the city has directed them to an engineer who is
drawing up stabilizing plans. It is advised for safety reasons that all people stay away from the barricaded, unstable wall for safety reasons.
The council entered into an agreement with Speer Financial for drawing up a bridge debt certificate for paying for the new well pump at well #3. US Bank has been the lowest bidder at just under 3%. The bridge debt will be paid from city income, not from additional taxes.
Tim Long also reported that all the grass seed should be down at the sports complex by the end of the month. It should be ready for baseball by the spring of 2010, and maybe Jr. Tackle in the fall of 2009. There is rock going on trails, the parking areas are paved, and block work on the buildings should be completed by September 30th. Irrigation should be up and running by the first week in October.
The council approved the Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade to be held October 25th. The parade will begin at the Community State Bank parking lot, and end at Main and Orange at the Post Office.
