Lion Member Aaron Johnson presented plans for the upcoming Candy Day Sale to be held in Morrison on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th. Lions Club members will be at THE National Bank, Community State Bank, Wells Fargo, and Sullivan’s Foods seeking donations and giving out candy during the two day campaign. Morrison Lions Club supports many sight and hearing assistance programs including “Seeing is Believing” which is for children with low vision and entails a low vision comprehensive evaluation clinic; and Camp Lions which provides opportunities for children with vision or hearing problems at summer camp sites in Illinois. Over 13,000 youth with impairments have met, made new friends, and been able to participate in both fun and challenging activities. The local club also assists in providing services and access to needed equipment for the visual and hearing impaired plus.

Locally, the Morrison Lions Club has given the final $1,000 donation to the Campaign Sight First II which is a campaign to eradicate preventable blindness. The Club contributed a total of $3,000 over the past three years. The Club has given $1,365.00 to Community General Health Foundation for support of their eyeglass program in the past year which assisted 14 children from the Morrison area. The Club has recently donated $250.00 to the Morrison Helping Hands for the purchase of gifts at Christmas for children. Throughout the year, service is also provided for those with vision and hearing needs who are unable to obtain services needed without some assistance.

The club is asking for the community’s support on October 10th and 11th. Please consider a generous donation to help the club cover the many services that are provided locally and to support the Lions of Illinois Foundation. The community definitely benefits from the services offered by the foundation.

The next meeting of the club will be on Tuesday, October 7th at noon at Happy Joe’s. Bob Smith is in charge of the program. The speaker will be Pam Pfister from Morrison Community Hospital. She will give a review of services available at the hospital. The next business meeting will be held at noon on Tuesday, October 21st. The club invites and welcomes anyone to attend their meetings. The Lions Club motto is “We Serve.”
