After putting in a bid, John Martin of Morrison, was informed he had been chosen to build a Kiosk. The structure would be placed near the Morrison Chamber of Commerce Building. The design for the information center originated from Story City, Iowa. The plans were received and construction began.
“It took me about two and a half to three weeks to assemble,” stated Martin. Black Hawk Lumber furnished the wood at cost; the glass was purchased from Kurtz Glass Company in Clinton, Iowa. The specialized corkboard inside was shipped from New York.
“Some of the materials I could get right away,” said John. “But some of them I had to wait for.”
The color choices coincide with Morrison’s Main Street attire. Paint was blended to match the blue siding, which encases the Chamber office. The burgundy and gold compliment the banners, which suspend from the light poles in downtown Morrison. Lynn Kennedy and Happy Joe’s provided the brushes and paint for the project.
“The pieces were primed as I was building it,” commented Martin. “Then Robert (Wood) painted the rest of it.”
The Chamber of Commerce Office is located at 221 West Main Street.
