2008 Year in Review

Cell Phones

Cell phones are a wonderful convenience, and for many people a form of entertainment. Never before have we been able to be so “connected” through calls, texts, and emails. Unfortunately, cell phone bills have become outrageous for some people, due to excessive usage or the wrong type of usage plan. I’ve heard many parents complain about their cell phone bill due to excessive use by their children. My suggestion is that if the child goes over the “plan” minutes or texts then the child is responsible for that portion of the bill. Additionally, parents need to monitor their minutes/texts used during the month, with the child. By exceeding the cell phone plan’s minutes/texts, it means you are going over your budget and teaching kids it’s ok to be excessive.

Cell phone designs change daily almost, and with any technology it is marketed to be obsolete five minutes after you purchase it. Unless your budget allows or your phone breaks, you do not need the latest cell phone that a cell phone marketer is trying to sell you to increase their bottom line while depleting yours.
