The tennis court at Kelly Park

The tennis court at Waterworks Park

|
Any tennis player would be greatly disappointed if they were to step onto either of the two park tennis courts in Morrison. At Kelly Park, one would be faced with avoiding cracks in the pavement as well as the extremely large weeds growing out of them. It is virtually unplayable and is always vacant because of that fact.
The same problems are evident at Waterworks’ tennis courts as well, but an additional issue is the overgrown vines that have seriously intertwined with the fencing surrounding the courts. Nonetheless, on a day where the weather was desirable, there were people playing tennis. While they wished to remain anonymous, they did offer their opinions. One tennis player commented that it would be nice if they (the tennis courts) were cleaned up a bit. The other player agreed and also said that they try to avoid the troublesome vines as much as they can. They also joked that they were going to bring some shears with them to cut down the vines.
To think that it would not take much to clean the courts, just some manpower. Yet, no action has been taken. It would benefit Morrison tennis players, as well as others who enjoy the sport around the area if the courts were cleaned up, not to mention that a good-looking court would make the whole park look more inviting. With some work done to the courts, Morrison would probably see many more tennis players inhabiting them. It is unfortunate that all the attention and money goes from maintaining what we currently have in our parks to building new ones.
