CCC Offers FREE Adult Basic Education and GED Classes

Clinton Community College is again offering free Adult Basic Education and GED classes this fall.

People needing to brush up their math, reading, keyboarding and daily life skills may attend as well as those people who want to obtain their high school equivalency diploma (GED).

Classes for ABE and GED will be held in three locations: Clinton Community College Learning Center, Maquoketa IOW@WORK Office, and Maquoketa High School.

Class hours at CCC will be Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Learning Center (across the street from the main campus building).

Maquoketa classes will be held at the IOW@WORK Office Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Evening classes will be held on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. at the High School.

Clinton’s classes begin August 18 and Maquoketa’s evening classes begin August 25 while the daytime classes begin September 2.

English As a Second Language classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. They will begin September 9 in the CCC Learning Center. This class is free and open to non native English speaking adults. Morning English As a Second Language classes and Family Literacy classes will be held but times are yet to be determined.

Literacy tutoring is available year round. Volunteer tutors are matched with non-reading adults with whom they meet once or twice a week. All tutors are required to attend six hours of training before they begin.
