David Bean to Head Symphony Board

Veteran educator and musician David Bean has been elected as President of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra's board of directors, leading the organization into its 55th season.

A resident of Morrison, he is a music teacher in the Morrison Schools, and a clarinetist with the Symphony for the past 28 years. When the organization experienced leadership and financial difficulties in the late 1990's, he was one of the musicians from the orchestra who stepped forward to help with its reorganization, and has served several terms as First Vice-President of the board.

Board members elected Mark Bresler of Mount Carroll to replace him as First Vice-President. Other officer re-elected for the term are Marianne Jensen of Clinton as Second Vice-President, Darlene Powers-Palmer of Morrison as Secretary, William Zickau of Clinton as Treasurer, and Diana Lassen of Clinton as Historian. Robert Whipple of Sterling is Executive Director of the organization, and Brian Dollinger begins his second season as Music Director.

Bean succeeds Dr. Rob Engelson, who served as President for the past six years. "We owe a debt of gratitude to Rob," Bean said. "Under his leadership the organization increased support, held costs down and continued to provide excellent concerts while gaining a more solid financial footing."

"With our new Music Director, the symphony has expanded it's season to five subscription concerts and revived the Riverview Park Pops concert that has been absent for ten years. As the CSO begins its new season, the board and I are committed to providing excellent symphonic music in the area for the coming year and on into the future."

The Symphony serves a wide are of Eastern Iowa and Northwestern Illinois, and regularly performs in concert halls in Clinton, Morrison and Sterling. Information on the coming season is available on the Symphony's website, and will soon be in the mail to regular Symphony patrons.
