What could be better than a ride to the State Park on a beautiful Sunday afternoon? Having an ice cream social after the 7 mile round trip. Morrison City Police on bicycles and the Dare Car driven by Larry Smith from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department led about 40 members of the community, the Friends of the Parks Foundation, and the Morrison Mapping Family & Recreation Committee up and down the hills from Odell Library to the first pavilion in Rockwood State Park. At the Park, refreshments were served and the committees planned activities including watermelon seed spitting, water balloon tossing, and bean bag toss. Prizes were given out to all the participating kids.
Back at Odell Library after the ride, a drawing was held for bikes and helmets. Marcus Maxfield and Benjamin Hamilton each won the bicycles donated by River City Bike Shop in Clinton, Iowa. It was a family affair because the helmets were won by Marcus and Ben’s parents - Martina Maxfield and Mike Hamilton along with Laura Gatz. All the winners are from Morrison. Each participant was given a water bottle donated by River City Bike Shop and water donated by Culligan of Clinton, Iowa.
After the ride the Mapping Committee hosted an ice cream social with the ice cream donated by Morrison Dairy Queen. Face painting was enjoyed by the kids including the Cubs insignia by one of the younger riders, four year old Zackary Usterbowski. His father pulled him and his brother, 8 month old Lucas, behind his bike.
Everyone is looking forward to the 3rd Annual Ride next summer.
