Prairie Pastures "Off-Leash" Dog Park Offers New Area

by Anita Swearingen

The Prairie Pastures “Off-Leash” Dog Park is pleased to announce the official opening of a new Senior\Special Needs area.

Prairie Pastures officially opened on July 16th of 2007. This past year has been one of a lot of hard work, but more importantly, a lot of fun for the dogs and their humans. The park offers over 6 acres (now 7 with the new Senior area) of off-leash activities in a completely secure, fenced in park-like setting. There are now three separate areas; Senior, small, and big dog, so that dogs can run with other dogs of similar size and activity levels.

Dog parks are popping up all over this country giving dog owners the opportunity to play with their dogs in safe outdoor settings, giving their dogs that extra level of exercise that they get from running free and playing with other dogs. People and dogs both benefit from the social aspects of these parks. And of course, a tired dog makes for a good neighbor dog!

But few parks are fortunate enough to be able to offer a Senior area. Prairie Pastures is so pleased to be able to provide this feature. It’s always sad to watch our best friend slow down and it’s hard not being able to take them to all the places they once loved; this new area will give them the chance to freely roam and explore nature in a secure and safe setting.

Prairie Pastures Dog Park is a branch of the Soaring Eagle Nature Center. Entrance to the park is across from the south playground in Eagle Point Park, in Clinton, Iowa. Hours of operation are daily, 8am till dusk. The Soaring Eagle Nature Center is a non-profit organization supported entirely by its dedicated members and loyal sponsors. Day passes are three dollars for the entire day. For more information contact Pam Wisor at dogparklady@live.com or 563-249-4906. Information is also available at the park’s front entrance.
