Lyle Dale Pettinger

August 15, 1919 - June 19, 2008

Lyle Dale Pettenger, of Rock Falls, died peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Coventry Living Center in Sterling.

Lyle was born August 15, 1919 in Lee County the son of William and Bessie (Wood) Pettenger. He was united in marriage to Nettie Mae Eller on February 3, 1940 at the Methodist Church in Dixon. He was a WWII veteran reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant and served in the Medics as a Surgical Technician. He retired from National Manufacturing after 33 years. He enjoyed traveling, flying model airplanes, and his yard and garden. He served as deacon and trustee at First Baptist Church of Sterling. He was a charter member of Lion's Club of Amboy and he also belonged to the Morrison Model Aircraft Flyers.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nettie of Rock Falls; four sons, Larry (Judy) Pettenger of Paris, Tenn., Gary (Carla) Pettenger of Arvada, Colo., William (Shirley) Pettenger of Morrison and John (Denise) Pettenger of Lakewood, Colo.; 2 daughters, Linda (Roger) Schlitzkus of Jasper, Ore. and Patricia (Joseph) Baldwin of Rock Falls; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Edith, Arbutus and Beulah; 2 brothers, Irvin and Ray. Cremation rites have been accorded.

A gathering of family and friends will be Saturday, June 28, 2008 from 1 - 3 PM at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls. Private burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the First Baptist Church in Sterling, Coventry Living Center, and Unity Hospice.

The family would like to thank Coventry Living Center and Unity Hospice for their tender care of our husband and father.
