Corn and Soybean Diseases Update Scheduled |

Producers, agribusiness dealers, and crop scouts can gain timely information on corn and soybean diseases on July 18. Managing corn and soybean diseases and information on fungicides and regional fungicide data on both crops will be presented and discussed at the Crops Training Center on the Northern Illinois Agronomy Research Center, 14509 University Road, Shabbona. The workshop will include field crop disease issues that have occurred and those expected to occur through July in northern Illinois. An overview of disease research efforts in 2008 with some background from previous years will also be shared. Presenters will be Dr. Carl Bradley, University of Illinois, Plant Pathology and Dr. Bob Kemerait, University of Georgia, Department of Plant Pathology (joining us via teleconference). The workshop will include hands-on samples, handout materials, and viewing field trials (weather permitting). Three hours of Continuing Education Units in IPM have been applied for Certified Crop Advisers. Registration begins at 8:30 am, and the workshop will be conducted from 9:00 am to noon (lunch not provided). The cost is $30.00 per person and reservations are due by June 23 to Whiteside County Extension, % Greg Clark, 100 E. Knox Street, Morrison, IL 61270, telephone 815-772-4075. A brochure for the workshop is available from Whiteside County Extension and other Extension offices in northern Illinois. A minimum of 20 reservations is needed. Additional workshop at the Crops Training Center is set for August 13 (soil fertility and status of the corn crop).
