Vehicle Burglary
Joshua D. Stephenson, Morrison, reported on June 25, 2007 at approximately 7:15 a.m. that someone had broken the driver’s window out of his car and stolen a compact disc and MP3 player. The burglary occurred some time the previous night while the Stephenson vehicle was parked in the 400 block of East Wall Street. Garage Burglary
Michael K. Hamilton, Morrison reported on June 25, 2008 at approximately 8:30 a.m. that someone had entered his garage at 401 North Genesee Street and stolen two bicycles. The burglary occurred some time during the previous night.
Criminal Damage to Property
Robert VanOsdol reported on June 25, 2008 at approximately 8:45 a.m. that several juveniles had broken down a porch at 401 East Main Street. Police are investigating this incident.
Accident with Arrests
Morrison Police investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 600 block of West Lincolnway on June 25, 2008 at approximately 10:50 a.m. A pick-up driven by Jerald A Schreiner, 41, Clinton was eastbound on West Lincolnway, when the left front wheel of Schreiner’s truck became detached, and struck a westbound car driven by Gaylen R. Miller, 49, Fulton.
There were no injuries as a result of the incident. Damage to both vehicles exceeded $500, and Schreiner’s truck had to be towed from the scene. Schreiner was charged with driving while license revoked, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and operating a vehicle with unsafe equipment. Schreiner was transported to the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center where he was released on a notice to appear in court. Schreiner is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Delinquency Arrests
Morrison Police detained a 15-year-old juvenile on June 29, 2008 at approximately 7:30 p.m. on a Whiteside County warrant charging the juvenile with violation of probation. The juvenile was also charged with unlawful possession and consumption of alcohol. Police also charged Nicholas A. Cross, 23, Morrison, with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The juvenile and Cross were detained after they were observed by a police officer, consuming an alcoholic beverage in Kelly Park.
Cross was transported to the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center where he was released on a notice to appear in court. The juvenile was transported to the Mary Davis Home Juvenile Detention Facility, in Galesburg, pending an adjudication hearing. Cross and the juvenile are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Pursuit of a Stolen Vehicle
Morrison Police responded to a complaint of an erratic driver in the 700 block of West Lincolnway on June 29, 2008 at approximately 11 p.m. A Morrison Police Officer located the car, and attempted to stop the car on Route #30 near Feldman Road. The driver of the car attempted to elude the officer, and continued to drive at speeds approaching 100 miles per hour, traveling east on Route #30.
As the suspect vehicle approached the intersection of Route #30 and Interstate 88, a Whiteside County Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, and was nearly struck by the vehicle. The suspect vehicle then continued east on Route #30 into Rock Falls. As the vehicle entered Rock Falls City Limits, Rock Falls Police Officers attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle using tire deflation devices. After the vehicle ran over the tire deflation devices, the vehicle continued east, with three punctured tires.
The vehicle then turned north on 12th Avenue in Rock Falls, where the driver lost control and struck a three-foot brick retaining wall. The driver and passenger then fled on foot. Both were captured after a brief foot pursuit by Rock Falls and Morrison Police. It was at this time that the Morrison Police Department was informed by the Clinton, Iowa Police Department that the car was stolen, and had been involved in a hit and run in Clinton earlier in the evening. No one was injured as a result of the incident.
Following the apprehension of the suspects, Morrison Police charged Samuel D. Simons, 19, Clinton, with theft of an automobile by possession, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude police, no valid driver’s license, speeding, and improper lane usage. The passenger, Vincent M. Richmond, 17, Clinton, was charged with theft of an automobile by possession.
Simons and Richmond were incarcerated at the Whiteside County Law Enforcement Center pending an appearance before a judge. Simons and Richmond are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
