Police Chief Ernie Huling Announced His Retirement |
|
After 34 years of service to the City of Morrison Police Department, including nine years as Chief, Chief Ernie Huling has announced his retirement. The announcement was made at the end of the Morrison City Council meeting on June 23. Chief Huling will continue to serve as Chief of Police until a successor has been sworn into office. According to City Administrator Tim Long, the process for a professional search for Chief Huling’s replacement will be presented to the City Council at the July 14 meeting, and initiated immediately upon approval. The search will consider both internal and external candidates. It is expected that a replacement will be sworn into office in mid-to-late September. Long and Chief Huling will continue to work collaboratively, but now focused on planning to provide for a positive selection process and a smoother transition. Long observed that Chief Huling has been a solid and reliable presence, both in the Police Department and at City Hall during the short time he has worked with him. Long stated that the Chief brought an extraordinary set of skills to the position. These include an advanced degree in public administration, certification as a public accountant, an extraordinary ability at recall of facts and details, and the respect of his peers in the law enforcement community. “We would be remiss not to acknowledge Chief’s really terrific Cajun shrimp gumbo, best ingested with a great deal of milk,” stated Long. “Chief Huling’s many years of experience in law enforcement have provided Morrison continuing professionalism of the department, improvements in equipment and methods, and a focus on the greater good of the community. The City of Morrison, while regretting the loss of Chief’s presence, wishes him the best in his retirement and any new ventures he may wish to undertake. We hope that our constituents take a moment to do the same.” by Editor, theCity1.com |
