Horse Pasture Walk

Are your pastures working for you, or is their potential not developed? Are you thinking of establishing or renovating a pasture for horses? This workshop will focus on the management of your horse pasture to improve the quality, yield and carrying capacity of your pastures.

This workshop will include discussions about forage specie selection and weed management in pastures. General horse nutrition and things to watch out for on your grazing acreage will be covered also.

You’ll pick up ideas and practical information that can be applied and put to use in your grazing operation, enabling pastures to work for you.

This workshop will benefit those looking to start a horse pasture as well as those who have had horses on pasture for several years.

The workshop will be held on June 23, 2008 at the Cal Vandermyde, DVM, Farm located at 15213 Norrish Road, Morrison. The workshop begins at 6 pm and concludes at 8:30 pm. There is no charge for this program, but please RSVP by June 20th by calling (815) 772-4075. The program is sponsored by University of Illinois Extension, USDA Risk Management Agency, and Illinois Forage and Grassland Council.

For more information on the Horse Pasture Walk or if you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, please Greg Clark at the Whiteside County Extension at (815) 772-4075. A special thank you goes out to Cal Vandermyde and his family for hosting the Horse Pasture Walk.
