CCC Open House at CCC Learning Center |

Clinton Community College will host an Open House in the CCC Learning Center, new home to the college’s Continuing Education and Adult Basic Education departments, on Monday, June 23, 2008 from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. The community is invited to come and enjoy refreshments while touring the facility located at 944 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton. The Clinton Community College Continuing Education department provides educational opportunities to the general public as well as facilitates continuing education experiences for professionals. Programs offered include classes for nonprofit organizations; summer kids’ classes; special programs for senior citizens; co-sponsor programs with USFW, Bickelhaupt Arboretum, RSVP, CSAC. Continuing Education also brings special guests to CCC such as Jane Elliott and Mary Swander. Conferences hosted by the department include Horticulture in the Heartland and the annual Child Care Providers Mini-conference. CE also works with many partners such as the Clinton Police Department to offer specialized classes on Tobacco Compliance and Citizen Police Academy. The Adult Basic Education department houses the GED, English as a Second Language, and Literacy programs. Adult Basic Education and GED classes develop reading, writing, speaking and math skills. Programming is designed to help anyone 16 years of age or older take the steps necessary toward passing the GED exam and beyond. The ESL class will expand English communication skills for students who are not native English speakers. Classroom, small group and computer instruction are designed to promote reading, writing, listening, speaking, and pronunciation. Students learn about daily communication, conducting business and how to interact in the community. Family Literacy is a program designed for ESL students and their families. While the parents are studying English and citizenship their children have the opportunity to work on their reading and motor skills as well as having parent and child time together.
