Second Annual Ovarian Cancer Research Golf Outing

The Second Annual Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Golf Outing will take place at the Cross Creek Golf Course on June 28th. Eighty golfers will take to the links at 10:30 a.m. for a fun day of golf supporting a great cause.

The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF) is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization devoted to the formulation of early diagnostic treatment programs and research towards the ultimate conquest of ovarian cancer.

As OCRF strives to find an early diagnostic tool and a cure, it also seeks to support patients and their loved ones in understanding this disease and its treatment as well as to provide outreach programs and raise public awareness.

Two years ago Jan Snyder of Morrison was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer; from that day forward Jan wanted so much to make sure women were aware of the disease and to be aware of the sometimes vague warning signs. With the help of her family and friends Jan started the First Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Golf Outing. Last year with the help of the community over $20,000 was raised for the OCRF. Jan passed away in 2007 but the golf outing she started will continue. All proceeds from this tournament will be donated to The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Inc.

Ovarian Cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. According to the American Cancer Society, it is estimated that 21,650 women will be diagnosed with this cancer in the U.S. in 2008, and about 15,520 women will die from the disease. A woman’s lifetime risk of ovarian cancer is 1 in 67; it is an insidious disease that often strikes without warning and without cause. The symptoms of ovarian cancer are often vague and subtle, making it difficult to diagnose.
