Symphony Benefit and Free Pops Concert this weekend

The annual spring benefit for the Clinton Symphony Orchestra and a free family pops concert on the riverfront are scheduled for this weekend. The events will mark the close of the Symphony's 54th season.

The benefit, "A Symphonic Affair," is Saturday evening [June 7] from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Clinton Country Club. The annual event features plentiful hors d'oeuvers, beverages, and entertainment, and is one of the few opportunities for those who enjoy and support the Symphony to gather for a social occasion.

A feature of the event is a number of auction items donated by individuals and businesses, which will be offered for both silent and live auction. Mixed in with the merchandise is a seat on stage in the middle of the orchestra for one next season's concerts. An opportunity to conduct a piece on the Pops Concert the following evening will also be offered to the highest bidder.

Background entertainment for the evening will be supplied by some of the orchestra musicians, and by one of next season's guest artists.

The Riverfront Pops Concert is on Sunday [June 8] at 6:30 in Clinton's Riverview Park. The Symphony, under the baton of Brian Dollinger, will perform music of Henry Mancini, "Ol' Blue Eyes," The Beach Boys, and music from Broadway and films, all topped off with the 1812 Overture and Stars and Stripes Forever.

Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, and the entire family and friends. The Symphony has planned this opportunity to reach out and perform for listeners who may not have been to an indoor concert during the regular season. In case of rain, the concert will be moved under U. S. Bank at the corner of 4th Ave. S and S 3rd St.

Admission for Saturday's benefit is $30 per person, or $200 for a table of 8. Reservations are encouraged, and should be made as early as possible with Marianne Jensen at 563-243-5958, or with Dave Bean at 815-772-7913. They may also be made by fax to 815-625-0922 or by email to execdirector@clintonsymphony.org.

Information on the two events and a current listing of auction items for the benefit are on the Symphony's website.
