Ashford to Offer Health Care Administration Program

Ashford University plans to launch its latest ASPIRE accelerated academic program – Bachelor’s in Health Care Administration – on August 26 to coincide with the start of traditional classes at its Clinton campus.

“When we have done informal surveys, many people have said they would be interested in a degree program in the health field,” said Dr. Hope Gardina, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “Students in our HCA program will explore health administration, regulation and financing, health care planning and health policy. They will also delve into the social, political, ethical, legal and economic factors contributing to the complexity of the U.S. health care system.”

Students in the program will take classes one night a week, one course at a time for five weeks at Ashford’s Clinton campus. The University also offers several other degree programs in the accelerated format through its ASPIRE programs – Bachelor’s in Organizational Management (BAOM), Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Arts in Organizational Management (MAOM). ASPIRE stands for “Affordable, Specialized, Personal, Innovative, Rewarding Education.”

An information meeting to explain the new HCA program will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17 in the University’s Cortona Art Gallery, located on the second floor of St. Clare Hall.

Gardina said classes in the HCA program are taught by graduate-degreed faculty with real world experience in the fields they teach. “In addition, students can transfer up to 90 approved credits toward this Bachelor's degree and accelerate their degree completion,” she said.

A person with a health care administration degree can pursue a career in many areas, including Health Care Administration (non-clinical management, office staff, medical secretaries, technicians), hospital operations, health care human resources, health care strategy, facilities management, medical information management and clinical research management.
