Symphony Brass to play National Anthem for Lumberkings

Members of the Clinton Symphony Orchestra brass section will perform the National Anthem at Thursday's [May 29] Lumberkings game. The brass players are preparing for a free Riverfront Pops Concert that the symphony will present on Sunday, June 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Riverview Park shell. Performing for the Lumberkings on trumpet will be Larry Olson, Carolyn Aiken and Ben Logan. Playing trombone will be Joe Titus, Maurice Rogers and Warren Wiersema and on tuba will be Mark Bressler.

The Clinton Symphony is finishing its 54th season of providing live music to the Gateway area with its annual benefit at Clinton Country Club on Saturday, June 7 and the free Pops Concert on June 8.

The benefit, "A Symphonic Affair," features a bountiful appetizer buffet, silent and live auctions, entertainment and a cash bar. The event has annually raised significant funds for the operation of the Symphony.

Reservations are requested for the benefit, and can be made by telephone with Marianne Jensen at 563-243-5958, or David Bean at 815-772-7913. Reservations by mail can be made to Clinton Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 116, Clinton, IA 52733-0116; by email to execdirector@clintonsymphony.org; or by fax to 815-625-0922. Admission is $30 per person, or a table of eight for $200.

The free Pops Concert the following day is at the shell in Clinton's Riverview Park. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, perhaps some food for a picnic, and to bring the entire family as well as friends to the event. In event of rain, the concert will be moved to underneath U. S. Bank at the corner of South 3rd Street and 4th Avenue South.

Programming for the evening will include music from Big Bands, "Ol' Blue Eyes," Beach Boys, Disney TV's "High School Musical," music from Broadway and films, and topped off with the "1812 Overture" and "Stars and Stripes Forever."

Information for the two events is also available on the Symphony's website.
