Clinton Symphony Plans Double Header Weekend |
|
The Clinton Symphony Orchestra's annual spring benefit and a free Riverfront Pops Concert are set for the first weekend in June. The pops concert was a regular feature from the orchestra in the 1990's, reinstated this season in celebration of a very successful concert season, the first with new Music Director and Conductor, Brian Dollinger. "Brian has brought a wealth of musical experience and an engaging spirit to the orchestra," outgoing board president Rob Engelson said. The outdoor pops concert in a relaxed setting will allow everyone the opportunity to hear the orchestra, and perhaps encouragement to hear them on a more regular basis during the season. The concert is at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, June 8 at the shell in Clinton's Riverview Park. Concert-goers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket, perhaps some food for a picnic, and to bring the entire family as well as friends to the event. In event of rain, the concert will be moved to underneath U. S. Bank at the corner of South 3rd Street and 4th Avenue South. Programming for the evening will include music from Big Bands, "Ol' Blue Eyes," Beach Boys, Disney TV's "High School Musical," music from Broadway and films, and topped off with the "1812 Overture" and "Stars and Stripes Forever." The Symphony's annual benefit, "A Symphonic Affair," is scheduled for the previous evening, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Saturday, June 7 at Clinton Country Club. The event features a bountiful appetizer buffet, silent and live auctions, entertainment and a cash bar. The event has annually raised significant funds for the operation of the Symphony, now wrapping up its 54th concert season. Reservations are requested for the benefit, and can be made by telephone with Marianne Jensen at 563-243-5958, or David Bean at 815-772-7913. Reservations by mail can be made to Clinton Symphony Orchestra, PO Box 116, Clinton, IA 52733-0116; by email to execdirector@clintonsymphony.org; or by fax to 815-625-0922. Admission is $30 per person, or a table of eight for $200. Information for the two events is also available on the Symphony's website. by Editor, theCity1.com |
