Whiteside County Reports

Driver Airlifted to Peoria
Whiteside County Deputies responded to a single vehicle roll over crash on April 21, 2008 at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Meredosia Road just south of Stern Road, rural Albany, where the driver/occupant was trapped under the vehicle.
Upon investigation it was determined that the unit was northbound on Meredosia Road when the driver, James Eric Shelly, 19, Albany entered the curve too fast. This caused the passenger side tires to leave the pavement onto the gravel shoulder. Shelly overcorrected the mistake, causing his vehicle to enter an uncontrollable slide which also sent the vehicle into the east ditch where it first struck the embankment and then proceeded to roll several times. During the rolls, Shelly was completely ejected from the vehicle and when the vehicle ended upright in the final resting position, it was partially on Shelly’s lower torso.
Shelly was first airlifted to Genesis-Illini and then to St Francis in Peoria for treatment of his injuries. Shelly was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The investigation continues and charges are pending. Albany Fire/EMS, Cordova Fire, Erie Fire, Erie Police, Medforce and Midwest Collision all assisted on scene.

Two Arrested on Controlled Substance Charges
Whiteside County Deputies arrested Cody J. Housenga, 19, and Maria G. Casas, 29, both of Sterling after conducting an investigative stop on a vehicle they were in early Saturday morning, April 26, 2008, north of Tampico.
Deputies located a white powdery substance (cocaine) and at this time arrested and charged both subjects with Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Delivery of a Controlled Substance with 1,000 feet of a park. Both subjects were transported to the Whiteside County Jail pending court appearances. Deputies were assisted in the investigation by Prophetstown Police Department.
