Ashford University Musical Groups Plan Concert

A variety of musical selections will be presented when Ashford University’s music groups perform their spring concerts on Sunday, April 27. The Concert Choir, conducted by Dr. Rob Engelson, is set to perform at 2 p.m., while the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Steve Little, will present its concert at 5 p.m. Both events will be held in the University Chapel located on the third floor of St. Clare Hall. Both concerts are free and open to the public.

The first half of the choir concert will feature Latin motets from several eras and three movements from “Missa Festiva” by John Leavitt, a well-known contemporary American composer. Second half selections will include Randall Thompson's “The Road Not Taken,” an arrangement of George Shearing's “Lullaby of Birdland,” and a contemporary spiritual entitled “Shut De Do.”

AU's Inspirational Choir, an ensemble that was organized during the fall semester, will also be featured as guest performers.

The Wind Ensemble concert will feature the works of Ravel, Vaughn-Williams and Bach. Delibes' “Flower Duet” from the opera “Lakme” will showcase clarinetists MaryAnn Webb and Valerie Boles and a piece entitled “Instant Concert” includes themes from 33 different works.
