Odell Library to Celebrate National Library Week

The Morrison Post

The Odell Public Library will celebrate National Library Week April 13-19, 2008, and with local author Wally Kilgus reading and signing his newest children’s book on Friday, April 18 at the library. Beginning at 7:00 P.M., Wally will read aloud his second book, “Bess Takes a Ride” followed by the book signing. The circle of listeners will include granddaughter Bess for whom this second book is written and granddaughter Emma, the heroine of Wally’s first book, “Emma and the Wild Boar.”

Both books are a part of “The Great Woods” series and feature the woodland animals: Olivia Owl, Beulah Bear, Willi, the Wild Board, and, of course, Chaucer, the English sheepdog. Craig Howarth’s charming, colorful illustrations bring the delightful story. Each animal’s face and body show its emotion and character with imagination. Also contained within the pages of the book are Grandpa Wally, Grandma Joann, Mom and Dad: Amy and Joe Chamley, and Uncle Adam.

“Bess Takes a Ride” is an enchanting tale of a little girl’s adventure with the animals in the Great Woods and her discovery of the Rock Creek. The book will be on sale the evening of the event for $24 hardcover and $18 softcover.

“Emma and the Wild Boar” may also be purchased that evening; both books together will receive a discount. The books are also available at the law office at 209 West Main and Gallery on Main, 112 East Main.

A reception honoring the author and his family will follow the book signing. The community is invited to attend this occasion celebrating both a local author and National Library Week.
