Jennifer’s Dance Center celebrated 10 years on Saturday, April 12 with two recital performances in the Morrison High School Auditorium entitled “Back To Basics.”

Selections for performances included Broadway hits, Classics, a fast paced Appalachian Mountain Clogging and Irish steps.

Seven senior graduates performed personal solo routines. The graduates included Heather Shoemaker, Hannah Bees, Meghan Houzenga, Kelsey Rickels, Morgan Shirk, Emily Skelton and Maggie Slavin.

The final performance of the program was a moving performance to the song “You’ll Be In My Heart” which included six of the younger girls who portrayed the seniors with their dads. Emma Kelly represented a young Emily Skelton, Chloe Bielema as Kelsey Rickels, Mazzi Chaffee as Meghan Houzenga, Paige Baker as Hannah Bees, Alyssa Meiers as Maggie Slavin and Anna Lindstrom as Morgan Shirk.

The seniors acknowledged their experiences and gratitude to those who had influenced them in their dancing quest.

Hannah Bees: First and foremost I would like to thank my family and friends who have always supported me in whatever I do. My family for believing in me and my friends for pushing me to be the best I can. I love you and couldn't ask for anyone better. Also, Jen and Mrs. Navarra for inspiring me to dance and taking their time to help me improve and do what I love. Thank you.

Meghan Houzenga: First of all, I have to say that these past four years have been the best years of my life. I would like to thank Jennifer Bielema, LuAnne Navarra and my fellow dancers for teaching me all I know about dance; you have been my inspiration. Thank you to all of my friends and family who have watched me grow as a dancer throughout these wonderful years. I would like to say a special thank you to my mom, Susan, who has encouraged me so much to do what I love. Thanks so much, Mom, I love you.

Kelsey Rickels: I would like to thank my family, friends and Mrs. Navarra for all the love and support they've given me throughout the years. I'd also like to thank my fellow dancers. I'm truly blessed to share the dance floor with these girls. Most of all, I'd like to thank Jen for everything she has done for me and for inspiring me to be the best dancer I can be. I love you!

Morgan Shirk: My senior solo is dedicated to my family who has always been there for me and has been my inspiration. I would also like to thank everyone who has given me the strength and courage to continue to dance all these years. Special thanks to Jennifer, Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Navarra for all their extraordinary help and guidance. Thank you to all my friends for their encouragement, support and loving friendship. I love you all.

Emily Skelton: I would like to thank my sister for being the reason I love dance in the first place. She was the one who showed me my first few dance steps. I would also like to thank my Mom and Dad for taking me to dance for all these years and my Grandma for coming to every recital. Last but not least I want to thank my dance teacher Jen and all my friends in dance for making dance the best! I love you guys and I’m going to miss all of you! Thank you!

Maggie Slavin: Thank you to everyone throughout my life who has inspired my passion for the arts and helped make my dreams become reality. Most importantly, I would like to thank God for His infinite wisdom and guidance, Jennifer for her dedication, patience and encouragement, my parents, friends and Ms. Kathy Hann for their unconditional love and support.
