Hospice of the Rock River Valley Welcomes New Staff Member

Hospice of the Rock River Valley (HRRV) is pleased to announce the addition of Julie Smith to the Hospice team. Julie will be working as the Medical Records Specialist.

"As our programs continue to grow we are pleased to have professional personnel to serve our clients, families and communities," said Executive Director Carolyn Spencer.

Julie joined HRRV in late March. As a medical records specialist, Smith will be responsible for all hospice patient medical records, including referrals, admissions, and compliance of documentation with physicians.

Prior to joining Hospice of the Rock River Valley, Smith spent 26 years in the banking industry serving in many capacities, from manager and auditor to commercial lender. Smith has also been involved in the community through fundraising activities at St. Mary’s School, the United Way and holds a Medical Transcription Degree and life, health, property, and casualty insurance licenses.

Of her new position, Smith said, “My involvement with hospice began a couple years ago when my dad was terminally ill. This experience, while difficult, was made easier for my family with the assistance of hospice. I want to give back and support those families now in the same situation.”

“We are excited and very pleased to have Julie as part of our Hospice team,” said Carolyn Spencer, Executive Director.

HRRV exists to provide physical care and emotional support to people who are facing difficult end-of-life decisions. A team of doctors, RNs, CNAs, social workers, clergy, bereavement specialists and volunteers ensure patients and families have the necessary support in their time of need. Hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance plans. For more information call (815) 288-3673 / 800-646-9242 or visit HRRV.
